Most travelers need a visa to visit Bhutan. However, citizens of India, Bangladesh, and Maldives do not need a visa before arrival.

Visitors from these three countries can get a travel permit at the port of entry. They must show a valid passport with at least six months of validity. Citizens of India may also use their Voter Identity Card (VIC) instead of a passport.

All other international travelers must receive visa clearance before traveling to Bhutan. A licensed Bhutanese tour operator or an international travel agent will process the visa through an online system.

To apply for a visa, travelers need to send a copy of the passport photo page to their tour operator. The tour operator will then submit the visa application.

The visa is issued by the Tourism Council of Bhutan after full payment for the trip is received. This payment includes a visa fee of USD 40.

After the payment is confirmed, the visa clearance is usually processed within 72 working hours.

When travelers arrive in Bhutan, they must show the visa clearance letter at the port of entry. The immigration officer will then stamp the visa in the passport.

Travelers can download the visa application form from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bhutan website:
